Swoon + Cat Solen – Levi’s Film Workshop

22 Apr

The Levi’s® Workshops are a series of venues dedicated to creative production and collaboration. The Film Workshop celebrates the craft of filmmaking and the other arts raised in the streets of Los Angeles. Like the exhibition at MOCA we are housed in, we champion a variety of styles and techniques; from super 8 to 3D, home movies to avant garde, amateur to professional. This Levi’s Film Workshop is a place where we facilitate and you create.

Juxtapoz Presents Die Antwoord

14 Apr

At first glance I was pretty shocked from Die Antwoord, didn’t know if I should hate it, love it or both! after the winds settled down I realized that I have lots of respect to artists who stand tall against all odds and deliver raw what comes from inside, Die Antwoord is like that, I don’t have their music on my machine and I wont go to see their show if it comes around but I’ll tell you one thing,  I bow down to their guts and creativity, that to me is what art is all about! Rock on! Juxtapoz (a cultural art magazine we adore!) did a small video piece with the artists and here is what came out…check it out!

Juxtapoz spent an afternoon this past Fall at the Treasure Island Music Festival in San Francisco, and put a camera in the face of the most anticpated performers of the 2-day feastival, South Africa’s art-hip-hop group, Die Antwoord. We had so much footage of our time with the group that we broke it up into 3 parts.

We talk with Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er at the Treasure Island Music Festival to discuss their career, art, and favorite movies. And we watch them drink in an empty shipping container. “We make pop music, we’re pop artists,” Ninja tells us.

What a Wonderful World

13 Apr

A stop-motion video animated and directed by Dan Berglund. The storyline is inspired by “What a Wonderful World” sung by Louis Armstrong; and the illustrations are drawn with marker on glass. (illusion360)

Notes about Berglund (from bio published at Agent Bauer):

Dan Berglund, born 1981 grew up on the Swedish countryside. During his childhood he dreamt of becoming a tattoo artist. At seventeen he took a job as an illustrator at a local newspaper. That became the beginning of an interest in making illustration a career. A few years later he moved to the Swedish capital, Stockholm, to study. After having attended several art schools and graduated from Beckmans College of Design, he now works full time as an illustrator/artist. Analog techniques is something he is keen at working with as it leads to experimental solutions and collaborations. In Dan’s pictures there always lies a story or point. At the moment Dan is busy with giving his lines life in sculptures/setdesign and animations.

44flavours x KLUB7 – The masters at work

12 Apr

There is no doubt that some of the best graphic style crews come from Germany, there is NO DOUBT!

Julio from 44flavours teamed up with his friend Otto Baum from KLUB7 to create another fresh wall paint at their new studio. 15 hours and 8466 pictures later it was done.

check 44flavours website here, it’s mad! http://www.44flavours.com/
Check Klub7 website also, it’s insane!!! http://www.klub7.de/

Here is some background info about 44flavours:
44flavours is an art collective from Kreuzberg – Berlin, consisting of Sebastian Bagge and Julio Rölle. Their work showcases a grand knowledge and understanding of diverse fields of art, using and rearranging all elements needed to bring their own visions to life. Growing up with graffiti and the sample and remix culture of hip-hop, both developed their respective styles without limiting themselves to a specific medium, but using anything fitting their ideas and tastes. Thus, the 44flavours not only stand for strangely beautiful exhibitions throughout Europe but also for a magazine, showcasing their vast network of friends to the world. Other works include magazine layouts, clothes for international streetwear brands and designs for various recording artists. Living in Kreuzberg, Berlin today 44flavours still evolves and creates in an environment of freedom and creativity at their studio, pushing themselves to higher heights and broadening their horizons every day.

And some sweet background info on the Klub7 Crew:

We are a collective of six designers and artists who live in Halle and Berlin. We work and create within the sub-cultural
areas of comic, illustration and urban art. KLUB7 was founded in 1998. Since then, we have been realizing various wall
and interior design projects. KLUB7’s fresh, authentic, urban style that is characterized by its long-year activity within the scene, is captivating.
